I run a fast growing (450% over three years) social enterprise in Brisbane. Previously I have owned and operated my own small business, and been owner / director of an environmental retail start up. I have worked in both the UK and AU in neighbourhood community development and community enterprise.
I am heartened by the Occupy movement and I see better forms of economics and democracy flourish in the next decade as the Occupiers influence policy or perhaps even a revolution or two! Capitalism has failed and we need to look for different ways to run economies; witness the success of Mondragon or Agrentina's Occupied Factories..inspiring stuff. However, while we continue to operate within the current system, social enterprise and entrepreneurship is a powerful way to ensure marginalised people are able to participate in economic, social, and cultural life.
