Our CEO, Steve Lawrence AO (1952-2012)
You may already have heard the news but I am writing to let you know that Steve Lawrence, the CEO of the Australian Social Innovation Exchange, died yesterday morning after a brave fight with cancer.
Much no doubt will, and should, be said over the next few days and weeks about his life and achievements, so many of which were suitably celebrated at his recent 60th birthday party and the Social Changemakers Festival, one of his final ventures that promises to grow into something very special.
His recent interview for the Centre for Social Innovation, only a week or so ago, was full of vitality and passion and unloaded layers of meaning and insight…it couldn’t have been more timely.
To say that Steve will be missed is a bit of a cliché, of course, but it’s true. Although it is so sad to lose him, we can also celebrate and be amazed at what he did and how he lived. His contribution to the establishment and growth of ASIX was central and frankly we would not have succeeded without him. We can all be immensely grateful we knew him, worked with him and were infected by his commitment and energy. It is a life whose impact is going to linger for so long in so many good and wonderful ways.
Chair, Australian Social Innovation Exchange
